Hace unos días publiqué mi primer artículo sobre la ciudad Tel Aviv mostrando mis fotografías favoritas. Hoy voy a hablar sobre el arte urbano que me encontré paseando sobre todo por el barrio de Florentin.

Pero, antes de continuar me gustaría hacer una breve introducción al Street Art.

Tuvo su boom en Manhattan (Nueva York) en los años 60 y servía como crítica a diversos aspectos de la sociedad. En sus inicios se consideraba vandalismo, pero hoy en día es reconocido como un arte y en muchos casos lleva el consentimiento del propietario del edificio. El artista británico Banksy es posiblemente el más reconocido a nivel mundial.

Con esta información suelo comenzar el Street Art Tour que hago para el hostal en Rotterdam. La gran diferencia con el arte urbano de Tel Aviv es que en Rotterdam suele decorar la ciudad sin transmitir un fuerte mensaje de crítica. Sin embargo, en Tel Aviv, pude observar frases más políticas y una serie de obras satirizando las nuevas tecnologías y el uso que la población les da.

A few days ago I published an article about the people of Tel Aviv. However, one of the things that most impressed me from the city was the street art, especially in the neighborhood of Florentin.

But before I go any further, I would like to take a quick look at street art.

The sreet art boom years were in Manhattan in the 60s and mostly criticized different aspects of society. With time it evolved from vandalism into a more mainstream art form that is sometimes created in cooperation with the owners of the building. The British graffitist Bansky is probably the most recognized artist at a worldwide level.

These are the words that I usually give to begin the tour I do for the hostel in Rotterdam. The main difference between street art in Rotterdam and Tel Aviv is that in the Dutch city it is just that: art. It mostly carries no message or critizism. However, in Tel Aviv much of the street art satirizes 21^st century society and current world affairs.
